SENIOR NETWORK ENGINEER
BASIC PURPOSE
The Senior Network Engineer plays a key role in designing, implementing, securing, and
optimizing PSTA’s enterprise network and infrastructure. Under the general direction of the
Senior IT Infrastructure Manager, this position supports both current operations and longterm
technology strategies across on-premises and cloud environments.
This role manages high-availability networking, voice and data systems, wireless
infrastructure, mobile and fleet communications, and enterprise security practices. The
Senior Network Engineer maintains real-time documentation for all networked
environments—including PSTA facilities, fleet systems, disaster recovery sites, and Sun
Runner stations—and evaluates existing infrastructure to recommend improvements.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Administer, optimize, and maintain the Authority’s LAN/WLAN/WAN environments.
Develop and support wireless technologies, routing protocols, and network hardware.
Oversee mobile communications for personal devices, fleet systems, and edge computing.
Provide advanced troubleshooting for complex network issues.
Analyze performance and capacity trends; recommend proactive solutions.
Mentor Network Engineering team members and guide tool/process selection.
Lead research and development to enhance network innovation.
Manage network and phone system security and access controls.
Design collaboration and routing architectures (SIP, H.323, OSPF, EIGRP, BGP).
Maintain agency phone systems and coordinate with service providers.
Support deployment of security solutions across hybrid environments.
Oversee internal maintenance of networking and telecommunications systems.
Train users and support Network Engineers' development.
Perform software updates, patches, and hardware lifecycle management.
Assist in developing and enforcing network/security policies.
Administer network access lists, IP schemes, and permissions.
Install and upgrade hardware/software (servers, switches, firewalls, routers, etc.).
Maintain professional knowledge through continuing education.
Lead IT projects and communicate effectively with all audiences.
Provide on-call and emergency response support.
Develop SOPs, templates, and improvement recommendations.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
Hire, lead, mentor, and evaluate staff; foster professional growth and high performance.
Actively support implementation of PSTA’s EEO Program and equitable administration of all
Authority policies and procedures.
QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION: Bachelor’s degree in information systems, Network Engineering, or related
field. CCNA and/or CompTIA certifications are preferred.
EXPERIENCE: Minimum of 5 years of professional network engineering experience;
foundational systems knowledge required.
Equivalent combinations of education, experience, and training may be considered.
LICENSE REQUIREMENT: Valid Florida Driver’s License preferred.
